The Will Oakley Photography homepage
The Will Oakley Photography Gallery page

URL: http://www.willoakley.com

Will Oakley Photography offer original fine art images in various sizes and finishes all produced on specialist materials.

The Will Oakley website was developed from a basic concept designed by a 3rd party to replace an existing site that was outdated and did not present the core functions that Will Oakley photography required.

Developing the entire website

The basic concept for the site was designed by a 3rd party company.

This concept required expanding into a full website design including all required sections and implementing a unified page layout across all pages.

Usability, accessibility, best paractice design heuristics and those items identified in our Top 10 tips section were taken into account to ensure that the final site design would perform appropriately.

The website was constructed to support the primary browsers while implementing best practice presentational techniques to ensure that the pages are lightweight and load rapidly in browsers.

Image Search mechanism

This involved developing a basic search mechanism that matches Search Keywords against the various data members and meta data stored against each Image.

Search results are presented in a standardised layout corresponding to the Gallery thumbnail page layout; 3 columns, 2 rows and pagination for more than 6 results.

Photo galleries

These are dynamically presented based on the Galleries stored within the CMS.

The Photo Galleries page displays a randomly selected image from that specific Gallery.

The thumbnail images and titles for each Gallery are linked to view the Photos within that Gallery.

When viewing a Gallery the title of the Gallery is displayed in the top left hand corner of the main area

The thumbnail images and titles of each Photo within a Gallery are linked to view the Photo detail page for that Photo. This displays the title, description, sizes and code for that Photo.

Slideshow

While viewing the Photos within a Gallery there is an option to view those images as a Slideshow by clicking the icon above the thumbnail images (to the left of the Search tool).

When visiting the Slideshow section directly (without selecting to view images from a Gallery as a Slideshow) the Slideshow displays a random image from each of the Photo Galleries.

Search results can also be displayed as a Slideshow.

Standard features: 'contact', 'about us', 'pricing', 'sales' and 'Ts & Cs'

The information displayed within these pages was provided by the client and displayed in standard layout pages.

Shopping Cart with fully enabled checkout

The vistor simply adds a requried Photo to their Shopping Cart by clicking a simple 'Cart' icon whilst viewing the Photo detail page for the desired Photo.

The Shopping Cart was designed to operate as seemlessly as possible and utilises AJAX paradigm functionality to synchronise the Shopping Cart data stored for the visitor with the selections that they make on the Shopping Cart page without the need for numerous lengthy paqe refreshes.

The 'Checkout' process is bespoke and involves several input forms and confirmation steps to collate the required data before the visitor is passed to PayPal to complete the payment transaction.

On successful completion of the transaction the Will Oakley order is updated to reflect that the order can now be processed.

CMS providing Image management

The CMS provides all the functionality necessary to create a new 'Gallery' and upload Photos to it.

The CMS automatically creates resized versions of the uploaded Photo to correspond to standard sizes requried for presentation on the Galleries thumbnail page, Photo detail page and within the Slideshow.

Order Processing interface

The 'Order Processing' section of the CMS provides all the functionality necessary to manage orders through the different Order status options, i.e. Cancelled, Pending, Payment Complete, Processing, Despatched and Completed

including:

  • Orders list
  • Order details
  • Customer details
  • Order status management
